| The plight of the Oppressed |
Howaya,
I'm writing all the way from the green l'il isle across the water... Your right indeed a chara, the fact that we are all part of the human race should be the common denominater in the struggle for equality and justice.
Like the african-american community and all other marginalised groups in the US the indiginous celtic irish have suffered horribly under the boot of imperial supremecy imposed by one of the main architects of supremecy,the British. Regretably their legacy has almost succeeded in eroding to nothing the very soul of our culture (with the help of seáníns-irsh version of an uncle tom). Our native tongue, self worth and tradition amongst many bbuses of our human rights. We have been starved,raped,slaughtered,tortured,enslaved on our own soil. But, alas, the time has come through centiries of struggle and resistance for the tide to turn.
Some of us have risen above vengence and now have to identify the common enemy that has persecuted humanity worldwide. Its time for Afro-american,zapatistas,and all the oppressed alike to unite and fight the common enemy.

To all Afikans I am a Irish American seaking support from all revolutionaries who are against the imperialistic elite that oppress our brothers and sisters of humanity worldwide. British imperialism has oppressed the land of my ancestors (Ireland) for the past 800 years. Their means of oppression of the Irish people are no different than their means of oppression practiced worldwide. Their justification (lie) to humanity for their evil actions is similar as well. During the past 800 years countless numbers of Irish have given their lives for the freedom of their land, culture, and their right to live. Even today the Irish continue their struggle against the Imperialists and always will till they are free. But that freedom seems farther away as more devils worldwide support their oppression and the oppression of any one who supports the Irish. Now americans are at risk thanks to our presidents' (dictators') patriot act (slavery act)that I am sure all of you who read this are familiar with it and it's abilities to suspend all citizens ''rights'' in the name Hypocracy at home and abroad. So to all you revolutionaries here in America I ask your support, for it is my intention to end American Imperialisms' envolvement in the oppression of the Irish people. I feel since we are human our fight for the right to live includes us all, and our fight will not be over till we learn to struggle as one. In response to your question. In conventional hip hop, the type you hear on the radio, I don't think women should want to take part or perform in it. Seeing as how much of the content of conventional popular hip hop is based on degrading women, but thats nothing new. This doesn't mean women can't perform popular hip hop, but why the fuck would they want to. However, in the case of politically concious hip hop, i think it is totally possible for a woman to be as politically conscious as a man. If a woman wants to voice her opinion on a variety of subjects through hip hop music, as long as its non-degrading, that I really couldn't care less. I believe any one should be able to participate in hip hop music/culture, regardless of race or gener. Sadly, this has never been the case, but that doesn't mean its not right. So in an abbreviated answer, I'm all for women rapping.

Hey there... I'm definitely new to the whole posting on a hip hop board, so don't toast me if you please. However, tomorrow (10-14-03) I am leading a debate in one of my classes on the question
"Can Women Perform Hip Hop Music?"
I would appreciate any feedback from people who consider themselves either part of the culture or true hip hop fans. Despite what I believe, I really am open to any opinion or argument. Please just email me before about 10am on 10-14 and let me know what you think. Thanks.
