<font size=1 face=verdana color=#637310>(this news item posted on April.28.2005)<br><br><div align=justify><font size=2>     It wasn't until I actually got to Buffalo State that I realized I had forgotten my camera. Damn! I left it on the recharging stand. I had rushed to get there just in case it was going to sell out or something. I was plenty early, it didn't sell out and I'd have had plenty of time to double check to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything if I'd have been thinking. Oh well. I forgot it, that's life. I got my ticket, I saw Baba Simba and so I went to go talk to him for a while and I ended up giving him a copy of Relations (that's my new novel). <br><br>     Chuck D spoke for a long time. He's a marathoner. He spoke a lot about many of the things that are in <a href="his">http://www.publicenemy.com/index.php?page=page3&item=92">his latest T-Dome</a>. He said "I can talk all day," and it was obvious from watching the audience that we could listen all day. So that's what we did. Chuck ended up staying until late in the evening. And then he took questions (for quite a while). And then when he was done he just sat down on the front of the stage and started talking to people and taking pictures and such. <br><br>     I guess I'm just echoing what I've heard from anyone I know who's ever met him, but he really is a fine example of humanity's potential. If I ever acheive any level of notariety, it is my hope that I comport myself in much the same way. <br><br> If I would have remembered my camera I would have had him hold a copy of my book and start a gallery of famous people holding my book or something <a href="">http://www.amprosoft.com/Gallery/Nader">(I got a picture of Nader holding my book when I opened for Patti Smith and Ralph Nader a couple weeks ago)</a> but since I'd forgotten my camera I just stood around and connected with a lot of the people that I hadn't seen in a while. There were a whole lot of people there who had been influenced by the Public Enemy phenominon. (Quick shout and some linkage to <a href="DeepThinkaRecords</a>">http://www.deepthinka.com/">DeepThinkaRecords</a> who sat on the front row across the aisle from me). There were dozens of people who seemed like they really needed to talk to him. And while I wanted to talk to him if it seemed like there's be time at the end, I was content to defer to the people that seemed like they needed to talk to him. But then as the night was winding down Baba Simba was making everyone he knew pose with Chuck D for a picture. And so he instructed me to go stand next to Chuck D so he could take my pictures. Who am I to argue with the elders right? Baba says go stand next to Chuck D, you go stand next to Chuck D. So I introduced myself and told him about when I was a freshman at Buff State in 1988 and what P.E. had meant to us all. I told him that I was GreenEarthAl on <a href="the">http://www.publicenemy.com/pb/index.php">the EnemyBoard</a> and that I had been one of the first to wish him a happy fortieth some years back. I told him about my book and offered him a copy. He seemed interested in it and so I bookmarked the page that mentions Public Enemy (with a <a href="BrainRap.com</a>">http://www.BrainRap.com">BrainRap.com</a> flyer) and he told me that he would read it and that I should contact him to go on his <a href="Air">http://www.airamericaradio.com/">Air America</a> weekend radio show that's coming up this spring. So, um, yeah. I will definately do that if that opportunity is there. So, yeah, that was pretty memorable. And Simba has a picture of it somewhere. <br><br><br>     In other news, I've had a really productive morning. I got BrainRap.com back online after months of absense from the web. I got a <a href="new">http://www.cafepress.com/amprosoft.18419795">new edition of my book completed and up online ready to be ordered by folks</a>. With the new, bigger type it's much easier to read. And now, I have about 4 hours to get ready and head on over to the Langston Hughes because I have to do some rapping of my own at <a href=""Poets">http://www.amprosoft.com/Info/calendar.cgi?&mo=04&yr=05#JLVVGKZLQVMKZCZ">"Poets Against Descrimination."</a> <br><br> be Peace, <br>-Alex <br><br>

Sept.20.2003

On Tuesday the new Paris album comes out. There's been a lot of talk about it on the internet. Hop over to GuerillaFunk and check out some samples and see if you want a copy, it'll be in stores on Tuesday.

http://www.GuerillaFunk.com

Also, Michael Franti's new CD "Everyone Deserves Music" has been out for a while. It's a great CD and comes with a video for the title track on the CD.

Hey! A new schoolyear and college semester is almost upon us. BrainRaps.com has surpassed 15,000 visitors so traffic is continuing to build even though posting is down a bit (my bad, I've been busy lately so a lot of the lack of posting is me)

New music is finally here.

Go grab yourself a copy of Michael Franti's new CD "Everyone Deserves Music" RIGHT NOW!

Also give a listen to Paris' new song "Evil" it is my new favorite song without a doubt.

http://www.guerrillafunk.com/paris/sonic_jihad/evilradio.mp3

Look for Paris' new CD to be released on Sept. 23rd and then be on the lookout for a Dead Prez CD shortly after that.

We also have new Featured artists comin in on BR. Check out http://ww.zearle.com for some of the hardest underground lyrics ever, and stay tuned for other new acts that were still talkin to.

The Evil is being disected on wax, some hard truth soldiers are ready to deliver the true journalism. Don't Sleep!

Apr.04.2003

Okay, I've been rewriting the message board software to make it easier to use, and made lots of changes to the main page: added more news items, put the headlines for some articles from other sites below that, put in the new message board stuff below that, so everything looks kind of different, but should be easier to use and more useful.

Oh, and I made a new website, you can check it out at http://www.GBINet.info if you want to.

March 18, 2003

Ooops. Been a while since I updated this news. A lot of stuff has happened since then.

In recent news:

Paris has completed his own website. You need to check it out NOW!
http://www.guerrillafunk.com/

The Beasties have just come out with a new anti-war clip. Head to their site and check that out:
http://www.beastieboys.com/

Here on BrainRaps we have added a few new things. We now have an external articles page, we'll be tossing more articles in there soon and put the most recent articles on the index page.
http://www.brainraps.com/external/

We have a new photo album in our gallery section:
http://www.brainraps.com/Galleries/galleries.cgi?GalName=HansBennett

There are two new songs by HetHeru in her features section if you haven't listened to those yet.

Also, we have a new Featured Artist: The Northern Horde. They're a collection of Canadian rappers who have lyrics and beats for days. Their sound is CRAZY! And they drop all kinds of knowledge. Their site is still being worked on, but you can head in there and listen to some clips for now. You'll be glad.

There's probably more new stuff that I'm forgetting. There's definitely more new stuff on the way.

February 2003

Hello. Happy Black History Month.

During January we went over 10,000 visitors to the site so that's really nice. Thanks to anyone who's been helping to promote the site in any way and thanks to those who've contributed posts and information on the various conscious artists we're trying to promote here.

It seems like things might be starting to change a little bit. People are speaking up more and more about not wanting so much negativity in our music and our culture and there seems to be a growing desire to hear messages that build and inform. BrainRaps.com will continue to do it's little part with all of that.

Last month we added a new Gallery. Some photos of Speech of Arrested Development and Michael Franti of Spearhead taken by Psyzmac.

http://www.brainraps.com/Galleries/galleries.cgi?GalName=Psyzmac

If you have any photos or artwork relating to positive hip hop that you'd be willing to let us display, just use the contact form to get my EMail address.

Lastly, be on the lookout for more HetHeru song clips coming soon. If you haven't listened to the ones we've posted up so far, go take a listen right now.

December 2002
Hey peeps.

As most anyone who's been coming here for a while can see there have been a lot of changes over the past month. I've updated the graphics around the site and added a lot of new stuff. I'll list that in a minute. Before that though I'd just like to say thanks to the people that show up and contribute to the site regularly. King and Ceedub especially. You all have added a lot. We're up to about 50 - 75 visitors a day to the site and we've been averaging a couple posts a day lately. It's a lot better than we were doing when we started so thanks for the help and let's keep building it out.

Okay, stuff that I've added in the last month:
The new graphics and cartoons that you see on the front page.

A new about page
http://www.brainraps.com/about/

Mos Def and Talib Kweli wallpapers:
http://www.brainraps.com/Galleries/Wallpaper/MosDef.jpg
http://www.brainraps.com/Galleries/Wallpaper/Talib.jpg

I'm adding some lyrics archives into the site. I've started with Dead Prez:
http://www.brainraps.com/DeadPrez/AnimalInMan.shtml
http://www.brainraps.com/DeadPrez/LookAround.shtml

I've added a link to DaveyD's site under the Rapstation Link on the left because everyone should be checking out DaveyD on the regular. And under the most recent posts bar I threw in a link to another GBI site of mine called Corporations-Suck.com

And now I'm actually going to go and catch up with and respond to a lot of posts on the message boards.

CRAZY!

Nov 2002, 1 year and counting...

Hey! It's been a whole year since BrainRaps first began.

In the last few weeks I've put a lot of work into upgrading the site. There are a lot of visual improvements to the front page. I've moved the site to a faster server. There's a new Dead Prez Wallpaper up today. The HetHeru site got updated, if you haven't checked her out yet please do. I went through and fixed the message boards, for anyone who was trying to get the text colors and pictures to work before, they will now work.

So anyway, enjoy the new stuff. Thanks for dropping by. Please take some time to post on some message boards.

The Hip Hop Manifesto

For too many years the Afrikan community has allowed
the negative side of Hip Hop to completely dominate
the positive. We have allowed radio stations to play
the same 10 songs over and over again, which talk loud
and say nothing, while the artists whose words could
uplift the Afrikan community, struggle to get their
messages out to the masses.
While corporate America will say that they are just
supplying a demand, we do not believe the hype. We do
not believe that it is a case of “giving the people
what they want” but giving the people what you want
them to have and that is music that will keep them
mentally, socially and spiritually oppressed.

We believe that the masses of Afrikan people are fed
up with the negativity that aids the genocide of
Afrikan people, disrespects our Sisters and guides are
youth down a path of destruction.

We believe that given a choice, the masses of Afrikan
people will choose music that will uplift the Black
community instead of tearing it down.

We have declared May 27th as Hip Hop Reformation Day
and we are appealing to all community activists,
conscious rappers, spoken word artists, Black
organizations educators and religious institutions to
raise there voices in support of the life enriching
messages of our Brothers and Sisters who speak TRUTH
to our people and against the forces which have used
Hip Hop to keep us mentally enslaved.

In preparation for Hip Hop Reformation Day, we appeal
to the conscious rappers and poets to send their best
materials to radio stations and recording companies.
We also urge the Afrikan community to compile a list
of positive rap CD’s by both local and national
artists and send it to their local radio stations.
This will alleviate the excuse that there is no
positive material available for the radio stations to
play.

On May 27th, we will flood radio station request lines
across the country asking them to play songs by
Conscious rap artists. We will visit local CD stores
and ask them for positive CD’s. We encourage all those
who are having Memorial Day cook outs and other
gatherings to play Conscious music and to mix in some
speeches by our Afrikan leaders. We encourage our
Brothers and Sisters to wear African attire instead of
what is referred to as Hip Hop gear. Lastly, Brothers
will refer to each other as “my Brotha“ or “Black
Man“, instead of “my dog” or “my nigga” and sisters
as, “my Sista” or Queen instead of Ho or chickenhead.

When we do this we will make this Memorial Day a day
for our children and grandchildren to remember. It
will be known throughout the ages as the day that the
Conscious Brotha’s and Sista’s took over!

Finally! Some updates.

Over this weekend I finally got a block of time to do some updates that I've been needing to do for quite a while. There are now message boards available for ALL of the artists listed. Just click their names on the menus on the left and you will be taken to their message area. Some of them don't have posts yet so you still have a chance to be the first poster on a lot of the boards.

I also added a few new artists: Saul Williams, Ozomatli, De La Soul & Blackalicious. Thanks BrinDaNOiZe for the suggestions.

Also, we've added a section called Jamz for people's remixes and original compositions. The first piece there is by Rirv, a remix of the Beastie Boys' Alive.

Feelin it

I see it comin together now. Have a lot of the work for this site done now. This weekend I got most of the topic message boards installed and working, I have a lot of work into the artists sections already, but it probably won't show up on the site until later in the week.

I just got the brand new Party Music CD from the Coup this weekend and I've been playing that on loop as inspiration. Boots and the Coup are all that and then some.

Well, welcome to the site. I've created a place for folks who like to talk about Rap Music and particularly Rap Music that actually has a lot of deep thinking involved. The kind of music that gets pushed to the back of the shelf so a bunch of silly people can jump on tv and rap about cars and houses that they really don't own while making women into jokes and themselves into stereotypes. There's a whole 'nother level of Rap music, Brain Rap, but what does anybody know about that?
