I got the new Speech CD, Spiritual People. It's not really very Hip Hop, it has a lot of singing and such. I like it though. I keep listening to it so I guess I must like it. I give it the thumbs up. :)

Speech develops third solo record -
Was it really 10 years since 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life for Arrested Development? It sure was. Not that Arrested Development is an afterthought, more that Arrested Development is an important piece of yesteryear in the evolution of Speech.
Arrested Development broke up in 1996 but that voice is still going strong. Speech is about to release his third solo album "Spiritual People". Speech says "The messages and the things that I sing about on this album are relevant to where my life has been over the last year and a half. The message of this record is honest and organic. Every song is different, but ultimately, 'Spiritual People' is about being true to who you are and not putting yourself in a box."
Arrested Development was a platform for Speech, a band that chipped away at popular music, a multi-platinum blueprint for neo-soul and socially-conscious afro-centric hip-hop and R&B. There were MTV Awards and Grammy Awards, phenomenal record sales - and all of the trappings of stardom.
Sorting through the aftermath of fame led Speech to a place of spiritual growth and introspection. In combination with the birth of his children, religious study, and the current world situation, 'Spiritual People" is a record that is true to Speech-form. He says "It is true to who I have always been but I am exploring new ground. In short - it feels fresh and joyful and that's a great thing given today's musical landscape."
More than five years have lapsed since Speech released his first solo album, an "experimental" work; his second solo album, "Hoopla," came out in 1999.
"I think our minds are open to black music being more than what we're used to hearing on black radio. People are ready to broaden their perceptions" he says.
"Spiritual People" will be released on iMUSIC on September 10, 2002.

yup... Arrested Development got back together back in 2000. since then they've released an EP (Da Feelin') and an album (harvest of the heros). they were only released in japan, AD gets much love in japan, but Harvest was suposed to be released in the states at the begining of 2001 but never happened. they recently put them on the website for mail order. I used to have a CDR of Harvest, it was the best album they ever made. too bad it never really got relesed and some press. AD could've been as popular as the Roots. |
