Common + Coke = Sellout (NEVER)
My man Common could never be a sellout He's is hip-hop in a word and nobody can break his stride, he's got a family to feed so i feel its fine if you gotta make a lil chaluppa on the side Common is hip-hop in its purest form

Common's trying to feed his fam. stop hating
Yo people realize this mans just trying to do his thing and make a little money on the side. Shit you can't call a person out for trying to feed his family, if so then we've all been guity of that once or even a thousand times. He's definately expanding his style and you should be loving that as fans or even those who aren't. One who stays the same always never because their focus on what they know and know one can tell them any different. So lets start being congratulator instead, of haters.

Sellout????
Whatever. Yo, Com gotta eat, right? Plus, he got a seed, his new (or soon to be) bride got a seed, peeps complain and call him a sellout, but they don't buy his shit. All they do is talk shit. Then, when peeps like PE or Common, or Kweli or whoever, do what they gotta do, the so called fans jump all over them! Talk about wack!

Damn, we forget peeps got family, friends, or whatever, eatin offa them right? Artists aren't just some mystical genie in a bottle that comes out, does some music then goes back in the bottle. They got bills and shit just like the rest of us. I don't know about ya'll, but I ain't gonna let MY fam starve to keep some fair weather fans happy. Fuck that!

selling out
The way I look at it, he is fairly popular and is breaking out from under the ground. He also tours. Why does he need to work for Coke? If he was the revolutionary he claims to be why would he be out in the open supporting a huge multi-national corporation. Having a sponsored tour is one thing, but starring in a commercial for them too?

I think the only way he can redeem himself now is if he uses the money from Coke and use it against them somehow, Chumbawumba stylee.

Common not a sellout
I just went to the Common/ Gang Starr/ Talib Kweli show in Milwaukee sponsored by Coca-cola. Frustrated by the commercial and tour sponsor that Common reps...I went into the show thinking (promotional event) and sellout.

The show was dope! Gang Starr and Talib put down nice sets but their sound was crap.

Common came on and sounded better and performed like a headline should. Not a peep about cokes anywhere!! He kept it real and was a real crowd pleaser. He even breaked and styled a little. Much respect to the midwest king as far as I'm concerned.

Its ok to make some loochie as long as you're not making wack music!

Common - sellout
I don't agree, at all. He's getting paid and being smart. He's also a fresh artist and a person that's growing. He had some homophobic lyrics in his earlier work and acknowledged he was wrong and cleaned it up.

Why is it an artist is a sellout when they're just trying to get some more cheddar to support their art?

Common
Does anyone know (or think they do) what year Common was born? Just curious...cause I've got five on it.

Coke?
Hey now. I used to be a big fan of common, had two of his albums before they were stolen. The thing is, I recently saw him on a Coca Cola commercial with Mya. Now I have no problems with her appearing on a Coke commercial, she's commercial anyway....but Common? To me that's a total sellout. How can he rap consciously and then sleep with the enemy? Coke is one of the most brainwashing corporations out there. I still can't believe I saw it.

BTW, this is my first post on this site. Props to whoever came up with this idea, I had been thinking of starting something like this myself. Dope site.

Electric Circus
I've heard about half of the album, and it seems like an extension of that soul funk deep meaning, but still keeping it hip-hop sound displayed on "Like Water for Chocalate". If you liked "Like Water for Chocalate" then go buy Electric Circus.

Common: is Electric Circus worth getting?
Anyone have Common's new album yet?

Is it worth getting. Just on the strength of what I've heard so far I was thinking of getting it.

Common's new video...

Hey, check out Common's new video.

http://www.mcarecords.com/artistDownloads.asp?artistname=Common&artistid=231

This is a beatiful video right here. Finally a video that is reenforcing the idea that young black men need to love these women folk. Time to build you know. That's the kind of community that the people deserve.

Thanks Common.
